Our Lady of the Forsaken – The Angels Did It

Seems appropriate for the current times. La Virgen de los Desamparados or Mare de Déu dels Desamparats is the patron saint of Valencia and the protectress of children, the elderly and the mentally ill. She stoops forward – to help and protect.  Her image was carved miraculously by three strangers, pilgrims who disappeared after the statue was finished. Therefore the local saying is: “el feren els àngels” (“the angels did it”).  May she watch over the abandoned and forsaken.

Update: I realise I should credit the Abbey Roads blog for leading me to the image. Belated apologies.
