An Astonishing Trinity from the Fifteenth Century

I looked at this image for a long time yesterday.  It is striking in many ways. As someone pointed out, you might miss the Holy Spirit at first glance.

God the Father in this image is austere, majestic and grave. And yet, see the smaller details – how His hands tenderly support His falling Son. The right hand around the top of Christ’s arm is exactly how a parent might touch a hurting adult child.
