Paul Robeson

Oh, the strange benefits of insomnia. Listening to a radio programme overnight about Paul Robeson, I was surprised to hear that he is less-known in the USA than in our own fair land.  When I was growing up, he was respected and acknowledged as a fine singer and a great man. In the USA, he was blacklisted for his support for the Soviet Union – not very surprising, that bit of the story….

Another time, and still the same time, I suppose.

Here he is, singing what he is best known for….and here singing Dvorak’s version of Going Home. And Danny Boy. Excellent.
