Saint Darerca

It used to be said that an Irish mother wished above all for one of her sons to become a priest. Saint Darerca, sister of Saint Patrick, did better. She was the mother of: Saint Eiche of Kilglass and Saint Lalloc of Senlis, Saint Sechnall of Dunshaughlin, Saint Nectan of Killunche, and of Fennor (near Slane); of Saint Auxilius of Killossey (near Naas, County Kildare); of Saint Diarmaid of Druim-corcortri (near Navan); Saint Crummin of Lecua, Saint Miduu, Saint Carantoc, and Saint Maceaith.

Hah. She had a few other children as well.

She is also the patron saint of Valentia Island, known to many of us through the joys of the Shipping Forecast.
