Golgotha II

Lajos Gulacsy (1882 -1932) was a Hungarian Symbolist painter, whose early achievements were overshadowed by his later mental illness and blindness.  This version of the Crucifixion scene is starker than that shown in the previous post: the figures on the crosses have been abandoned; they hang against a ominous sky. Only one person, perhaps Mary, stands at the foot of the Cross; only one other stays and turns to signal to Christ.
