Saint Milburh – Juan de Roelas
Today is the feast day of Saint Milburh, or Milburga: virgin, healer, miracle-worker and Abbess. She could literally charm the birds and was invoked for the protection of the harvest in the south of Shropshire, where she was Abbess of the Wenlock nunnery.
Saint Milburh was sister to Saint Mildred and Saint Milgytha, daughter of King Merewalh and Saint Eomenburg and cousin to Saint Werburgh, to name a few of her sainted relations. If only our contemporary ruling dynasties had so many saints in them.
